TriSad
Twitch Emote - Meaning & Origin
What does TriSad mean?
TriSad is a derivative emote based on the iconic TriHard emote, featuring a sad or disappointed expression of TriHex's face. While the original TriHard emote conveys excitement and hype, TriSad represents the opposite emotional spectrum - sadness, disappointment, or defeat. It's essentially a melancholic counterpart that allows viewers to express empathy or disappointment in chat.
Origin
TriSad originated as a variation of the famous TriHard emote, which features Twitch streamer TriHex. The original TriHard emote was created in June 2012 from a photo of TriHex at Akon-23 in Dallas, Texas, where he made an excited facial expression. The name "TriHard" came from a Twitch staff member who observed TriHex "trying so hard" during a difficult level in a Yoshi's Island speedrun in 2014.
TriSad emerged as part of the Twitch community's tendency to create emotional variants of popular emotes. It's commonly found on third-party emote platforms like 7TV, BTTV (BetterTTV), and FFZ (FrankerFaceZ), which allow streamers to add custom emotes beyond Twitch's default offerings.
When to use TriSad
TriSad is typically used in the following contexts:
- When something disappointing or sad happens during a stream
- In response to a streamer experiencing failure or setbacks in a game
- When viewers want to express empathy for sad stories or situations
- During emotional moments that call for a communal expression of sadness
- As a reaction to missed opportunities or unfortunate events
Viewers type :TriSad: in chat or select it from their emote extension menu to communicate these feelings, creating a shared emotional response within the community.
